Vaccinations & Immunisations

CHILDHOOD IMMUNISATIONS

One of the most important things that a parent can do for their child is to make sure that they have all their routine childhood vaccinations. It’s the most effective way of keeping them protected against infectious diseases.

Childhood Imms

It is important to make sure that your child is up to date with all of their immunisations. You can access the most recent Vaccination schedule here.

Our Practice Nurse available to discuss any issues you may have regarding immunisations. Just give us a call and book in to speak with the Nurse.

TRAVEL VACCINATIONS

In order to assist us to make a full assessment of the potential risks to your health from your planned travel, we would ask that you make a Travel Clinic appointment with our Practice Nurse. Ideally, this appointment should be made around the time of booking your holiday, at least 6 weeks before you travel as a second appointment may be required to receive further vaccinations.

Prior to booking this appointment, you need to complete a pre-travel questionnaire form. You can either print this form out and email us a complete copy, or you may attend our practice to collect one from reception.

Once this has been completed, please call the practice to arrange an appointment with the Practice Nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. Some travel vaccinations are available under the NHS but the majority are not, a charge may be made for some courses.

UPDATE 21/07/2023: We are currently not offering a travel vaccination clinic at the practice. Please visit your local pharmacy or Library House Chorley, if you are in need of travel vaccinations.

ANNUAL INFLUENZA VACCINE

Annual Flu

Flu vaccination is available every year on the NHS to help protect adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

Flu can be unpleasant, but if you're otherwise healthy, it'll usually clear up on its own within a week. But flu can be more severe in certain people, such as:

  • Anyone aged 65 and over

  • Pregnant women

  • Children and adults with an underlying health condition (such as long-term heart or respiratory disease)

  • Children and adults with weakened immune systems

Anyone in these risk groups is more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as pneumonia (a lung infection), so it's recommended that they have a flu vaccine every year to help protect them.

Closer to Flu season, you will be invited for a flu vaccine from our reception team, either via telephone call or text message. We usually hold a walk-in flu clinic at the practice. This however, is subject to change and will be updated to patients for 2023.
